Usman Akhtar was born in New York and raised in Connecticut. He is a lifelong student of the Quran and Islam, and has studied with a several credentialed scholars. He holds a number of licenses from renowned Muslim scholars in various sciences, as was practiced in classical Islamic traditions.

Usman Akhtar completed the memorization of the Quran at Darul Uloom New York and then went on to study at the renowned Darul Uloom Zakariyya in South Africa. He completed the traditional six-year curriculum covering various Islamic sciences under the guidance of world renowned scholars of Islam. He earned authorizations in Hadith from many prominent scholars, such as, the Grand Mufti of South Africa, Shaykh Ridha-ul-Haq, Shaykh Muhammad al-'Awwamah of Medina, and many others.

Upon graduation he furthered his education and training in the Arabic language and Fiqh. He traveled to Cairo, Egypt where he benefitted from the scholars of Al-Azhar University. During his time in Cairo, he furthered his studies and was fortunate enough to receive authorizations while studying privately under a number of well-known scholars, such as Shaykh Raf'at Fouzi and others.

Usman Akhtar is currently the Imam/Director of Religious Affairs at the Danbury Masjid where he conducts Quran memorization classes, counseling, halaqaat and much more. He is also an instructor at Darul Uloom New York, where he teaches the Arabic language and other subjects. He frequently lectures at conferences, seminars, and universities in the Tri-state Area. He also periodically contributes to the Forum on Faith, which is published in The News-Times. He is certified in mental health first aid and is a volunteer chaplain.
